The Virtual Camera is used around the world to teach basic digital camera use.

Beautiful Dorena

Beautiful Dorena is an experimental and, some might say, puzzling drawing program. It contains a wealth of features, most of them compelling but of questionable value. It is especially fun if you hook a video camera or web cam up to your computer. You can get information about it here and download it for free (Macintosh version only)

The Mugshot Machine

The Mugshot Machine lets you use your Macintosh and web cam like a photobooth machine. Find out about it here and download a copy of it. By the way, I released mine before Apple. (Macintosh version only.)

Here's a link to the original stand-alone version of the Mugshot Machine.

Here's a link to the new Flash version of the Mugshot Machine.

Kid Pix: The Early Years

In the early 90s I created Kid Pix. Here's the story.

Chumby Widgets

I created a couple of Widgets for the Chumby a while back. Here's one that offers a new phrase every hour for you to use in conversation. (Yes, the picture above is updated every hour.)

D-

n 1998 I created D-, a program that took perfectly good spelling and wrecked it in various ways. My friend Chris Rauschenberg mentioned that he still occasionally told people about it. I had to confess that it was no longer available for various technical reasons. This inspired me to re-write it in Flash so a new generation of good spellers could be horrible ones. Here is a link to it.

The Mugshot Machine Converted to Flash!
Use it Here!

In 2005 I created the Mugshot Machine, a program inspired by the classic photobooths of the mid 20th century. Shortly after I released it Apple came out with a similar program, PhotoBooth, which they give away with their computers. I stopped development on the Mugshot Machine at that time, but because it had a number of unique features, made it available on this site for free download. Recently I needed a project to brush up on my Actionscript 3.0 skills so I decided to make a version of it to run in Flash in a web browser. It's still beta software, but I thought I would make it available for testing now. If you have a video camera or webcam connected to your computer try it out and let me know how it goes. I am going to create a Mugshot Machine slide show so please email me your best work so I can include it! Future features may include things like direct Flickr integration. You can link to the new Flash Mugshot Machine here and the original stand-alone Macintosh version here.
